Baby 1 (4-14 Months)

Baby 1 classes are all about water acclimation, comfort, and safety. Between the ages of four and fourteen months, babies in the water are still equipped with valuable reflexes that allow them to swim underwater and perform some basic lifesaving skills. Baby 1 classes allow babies and their parents to learn to enjoy the water through safe exploration and play.

Toddler 1 (2-3 year – beginner)

Toddler 1 students have very little experience in the water. Toddler 1 class starts with comfort, acclimation, and basic safety exercises. Toddler 1 class will also introduce glides, bobs, and floats. Toddler 1 students must demonstrate safe behaviors and attempt to self-save, comfort swimming underwater with help, comfort in the floating position, and kicking ability before moving up to Toddler 2.

Toddler 2 (2-3 year – some experience)

Toddler 2 students have more experience in the water but should still be watched carefully. Toddler 2 class begins with swimming back to the step and reinforcing safety behaviors. Students will graduate from Toddler 2 with the ability to self-save (Humpty-Dumptys and floating) and swim to safety or and extended distance with a rollover breath before moving to an Intermediate 1.

Junior (3-4 beginner)

Junior swimmers have little experience in the water. Junior class starts with comfort, acclimation, and basic safety exercises. Next, Juniors learn correct body movement in the water by floating, gliding, kicking, and finally swimming. Juniors must have the ability to self-safe (float, Humpty-Dumpty, and swim on the back) and demonstrate big arms and rollovers at least halfway across the pool before graduating to Intermediate 1.

BIG-ginner (5 years and over – beginners)

BIG-ginner swimmers have little experience in the water. BIG-ginner class starts with comfort, acclimation, and basic survival swimming. Next, BIG-ginner swimmers will learn correct body movement in the water by floating, gliding, and kicking. BIG-ginner swimmers can swim some freestyle and backstroke before graduating to Intermediate 2 (if they still require extra work on side-breathing and backstroke) or an Advanced class.

Intermediate 1 (3-5 years old – some experience, developing big arms and rollovers)

Intermediate 1 students are very comfortable in the water but may not know how to swim with a consistent breath rhythm. Intermediate 1 transitions students with a basic understanding of rollover swimming into modified freestyle (consistent big arms with rollover breathing ) and backstroke across the pool. Swimmers graduate from Intermediate 1 ready to develop technical freestyle with sidebreathing in Intermediate 2.

Intermediate 2 (4-6 years olds – can swim across the pool, developing technical freestyle)

Intermediate 2 students can already do modified freestyle (big arms and rollover breathing) and sloppy backstroke across the pool on their own. Intermediate 2 transitions swimmers from modified freestyle and beginner backstroke to freestyle with sidebreathing and cleaner/straighter backstroke.

ADVANCED CLASSES (4 Years and Up)

Advanced (4 years and up – swimming freestyle and backstroke but NO breaststroke or butterfly)

Advanced students have plenty of experience in the water and a working knowledge of technical freestyle and backstroke. Advanced class fine tunes freestyle and backstroke to a competition-ready level. Advanced class also introduces students to breaststroke, butterfly, flip-turns, treading water with endurance, and swimming laps with endurance. Advanced students may move to Pro (technical development) or Super (competitive development) based on desire and need.

Pro (4 years and up – technical development for all strokes)

Pro students are perfecting the intricate technical elements of all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) with racing starts and flip-turns. Pro swimmers will spend less time swimming for endurance and more time on specific stroke development based on their personal needs and goals.

PENGU SWIM TEAM ACADEMY

Graduates from Pengu Super move on to our Pengu Team Academy.

PENGU Swim Team Academy is designed for swimmers who have mastered all skills in our different swim class levels, and want to enjoy swimming in a more competitive environment. PENGU Team Academy gives your child the possibility to pursue swimming all year round on a weekly basis without the time commitment club Pengu team Academy require. PENGU Swim Team Academy coaches will be with your child in the water during training to help improve their skills (ratio1: 8).

PENGU Swim Team Academy practices are once a week, for one hour, and swim meets are three times a year held on a Friday’s from 6 pm – 8:30pm. (Feb, May, and Oct) . The cost of the Pengu Team Academy is $78 per month.

With Open Swim Time we want to give you and your child the possibility to have fun, while improving water skills in a safe environment all year round. We like to see PENGU as a place for people to come together, a place where children and parents can meet, talk, laugh, and learn….
